What is Liposuction?
Do you still have that one area of fat that you cannot get rid of despite diet and exercise? Dr. Steve Peterson offers modern tumescent liposuction that permanently removes areas of fat to sculpt the body.
Liposuction or lipectomy is one of the first body-sculpting procedures available in the US and up to this day, it still remains one of the most effective ways to remove stubborn fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise. Liposuction is a very safe cosmetic procedure that can help you achieve a leaner and more youthful body contour. Our body is genetically preconditioned to look a certain way and there are some patients whose genetic make-up prevents diet and exercise from removing fat deposits in certain areas of the body.
Liposuction can help target stubborn fat deposits in your chest, back, abdomen, neck, arms, waist, buttocks, and thighs. If you have loose and sagging skin a lift procedure can be done in combination with a liposuction for maximum results.

What is a liposuction procedure like?
A traditional liposuction involves the insertion of tiny cannulas into the skin surface to help break down the fat deposits and suction it out. Although this procedure is very effective, developments in cosmetic technology provides new and improved techniques in liposuction that will make the procedure more comfortable for our patients.
In his efforts to provide only the best care for his patients, Dr. Steve Peterson uses the best and the latest in liposuction technology. His tumescent liposuction procedure is proven effective and safe and is designed for the comfort of his patients.
Tumescent liposuction is different from the traditional liposuction procedure because it involves the use of lidocaine and epinephrine which may eliminate the need for using general anesthesia. A local anesthesia will be used to numb the skin surface for the injection of the cannula and the lidocaine and epinephrine will be directly injected into the fatty tissue. The treatment will then proceed using the traditional method of liposuction where fat is broken down and suctioned out to make the area slimmer and leaner.
Liposuction is done on an outpatient basis and the procedure lasts between 2 to 5 hours depending on the areas being treated. Patients can resume work and their daily activities in one to two days after the procedure and have strenuous exercise restrictions for a period of time.
Liposuction results can be immediately appreciated but in order for the results to become more permanent, patients are reminded that they have to maintain a healthy diet and a regular exercise routine to stay fit.
