Golfers – You Have Skin in the Game

Posted in Skin Cancer Awareness | May 20, 2014

The PGA TOUR shares The Skin Cancer Foundation’s commitment to reaching men at risk with skin cancer prevention information. They debuted the awareness video below while being honored at the 2012 Skin Cancer Foundation Gala.

Skin Cancer Awareness

  • * 65% of melanoma cases are associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV)
    radiation from the sun.1
  • * Men over age 40 have the highest annual exposure to UV radiation.
  • * The majority of people diagnosed with melanoma are
    white men over age 50.
  • * Melanoma is one of only three cancers with an
    increasing mortality rate for men.

Prevention Guidelines for Golfers

Early / Late Tee Time: Tee off at sunrise or in late afternoon – avoid the sun at its most intense (between 10 am – 4 pm).

Seek the Shade: Whenever you can, seek shade on the course – stand under a tree or sit in your cart.

The Golden Rule: Do Not Burn.

Wide-Brim Hats: Wear a hat with a brim extending three inches or more all the way around, shading your face, neck, ears, and shoulder tops.

Long-Sleeve Shirts and Pants: Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants, covering as much skin as possible.

UV Protective Sunglasses: Wear wraparound sunglasses that block 90-100 % of UV radiation protecting the eye, eyelid and surrounding areas.

Protect on Overcast Days: Remember to protect yourself on overcast days: Up to 80% of the sun’s UV radiation can penetrate clouds and harm your skin.

SPF: Apply a generous amount of water resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB/HVE) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher to all exposed areas 30 minutes before heading outside to play golf. An SPF 30+ lip balm will help protect your lips.

Reapply Sunscreen: Carry sunscreen with you, and reapply every 2 hrs, immediately after sweating heavily, or at the ninth hole. Look for The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation.

Facial Fillers in Granbury: Choosing the Perfect Filler

Posted in Texas Cosmetic Surgery | April 30, 2014

Wrinkles and fine lines are the visible signs of aging that make you look older than your real age. If in the past people had to undergo surgery to reverse the signs of aging, now you can enjoy the same effect of cosmetic surgical procedures without going under the knife. Here at Lakecrest Cosmetic Surgery Center, you can take advantage of different facial fillers in Granbury.

There are different facial fillers available. Although they are similar in many ways, some of them are better than others in treating a specific condition. We have outlined the dermal fillers that we offer as well as their differences.

Facial fillers with smaller particles of hyaluronic acid (HA)

Lighter formulas with smaller HA particles are capable of correcting fine lines and moderate wrinkles and provide natural-looking results. These facial fillers are:

  • Restylane
  • Juvederm Ultra
  • Hylaform

Facial fillers with larger particles

Some dermal fillers have larger and thicker particles. The gels are also stiffer. These fillers are appropriate for moderate wrinkles and deep creases. They are injected to the middle layer of the skin to the deeper layers. These fillers include:

  • Juvederm Ultra Plus
  • Perlane
  • Belotero Balance
  • Captique
  • Elevess
  • Hylaform Plus
  • Prevelle Silk

Deep facial fillers

Other dermal fillers are considered deep facial fillers. They are used to correct deep facial folds. They also restore volume and offer “scaffolding” where the body can produce collagen. These deep dermal fillers include:

  • Artefill
  • Radiesse
  • Sculptra

Choosing a facial filler

Although fillers that are made for deep correction are generally known to provide the longest-lasting results, it does not mean that they will be used on fine lines. It is important to use the correct facial filler depending on the treatment’s depth so that you will have smooth results and not end up with lumps.

To learn more about dermal fillers and to determine which one is perfect for you, request an appointment with Dr. Peterson today by calling 817-579-5476. Now is the time to look younger and fresher by treating every wrinkle and every facial flaw using dermal fillers!

Myths on Brow Lift Corrected!

Posted in Texas Cosmetic Surgery | April 15, 2014

A lot of people appear tired and fatigued even if they are really fully awake and relaxed. Some look angry and worried. If people often judge you as tired or angry even if you are not, it might be time for you to get a brow lift. Here at our Grandbury cosmetic surgery practice, we can perk up your eyebrows and make you look alert.

A brow lift can enhance the position of your brows and improve the appearance of your forehead as well as your upper eyelids. Despite being a very popular procedure, people typically misunderstand it. They believe in myths that prevent them from undergoing surgery. Here are the most common myths about the procedure.

You can just have a facelift or get Botox injections.

The results of Botox injections are temporary. If you want long-term results, you are better off with a brow lift. A full facelift is appropriate if the skin on your neck or the lower portion of your face is sagging. If you do not have this concern, a brow lift is an excellent option.

It makes you look surprised.

The procedure focuses on reshaping your forehead and not just lift your brows and forehead. The wrinkles on your forehead are smooth out, making you look happier. You will only appear surprised if the surgeon applies the wrong technique.

It ruins your hair line.

Incisions may have to be modified if a patient has a high hair line. Then again, the majority of female patients can undergo brow lift without ending up with noticeable scars. There is special consideration for males since they have a different balding pattern. However, the complications of a brow lift are typically temporary. In case the brows are slightly asymmetric, they can be easily adjusted. Localized hair loss only occurs when poor technique is implemented.

Letting a board certified cosmetic surgeon with extensive experience like Dr. Peterson perform the surgery is important so that the appropriate technique will be used during the procedure.

For more information on brow lift and to correct any misconceptions that you may still have about it, request an appointment with Dr. Peterson today by calling 817-579-5476. We look forward to your visit!

Facial Implants in Granbury: Are You a Good Candidate?

Posted in Texas Cosmetic Surgery | March 30, 2014

A weak jawline and cheekbone can have a significant impact on your overall appearance. Strengthening the jawline and enhancing the cheekbones can be done with the use of facial implants in Granbury. These implants improve facial contour and bring balance to the face. Here at Lakecrest Cosmetic Surgery Center, Dr. Peterson only uses the most natural-looking materials to help achieve the desired outcome.

Facial implants can be very enticing especially if you have been struggling with a weak jawline and cheekbone for a long time already. Then again, as with any other surgery, there are people who are considered good candidates while others are not. We have come up with a short guide to let you know if you are a good candidate for facial implants.

Who is a good candidate?

By and large, a person needs to be in good health to be considered. Any chronic medical conditions or active diseases may affect your eligibility. During your consultation, Dr. Peterson will conduct a thorough assessment of your health and medical history to see if you are a good candidate for facial implants.

If you are a smoker, there is a chance that you are not a good candidate for the procedure. The same goes with people who just quitted smoking or have been exposed to second-hand smoke for years. Smoking, both primary and secondary, affects the flow of blood to your tissues. As a result, wound healing may be prolonged and the risk of scarring increases. It can also lead to skin loss, infection, and several other complications.

The best way to know if you are a good candidate for the procedure is to consult a qualified cosmetic surgeon like Dr. Peterson. Facial implants may be the answer you have long been searching for. Do not let the opportunity to have a more attractive face with the help of facial implants pass you by. Set an appointment with Dr. Peterson today by calling 817-579-5476 and learn more on how these implants can make you feel good and look even better.

Understanding the Different Levels of Chemical Peels

Posted in Chemical Peels | March 15, 2014

Sun exposure, pollutants, acne, scarring, and the aging process can take its toll on your skin. Skin damage makes us appear older than our real age. Fortunately, revealing your healthy-looking and smoother skin can be done through chemical peels in Granbury. The procedure comes in three levels. Here at Lakecrest Cosmetic Surgery Center, we will help you determine the level that is best for you depending on several factors.

Mild Peels

Mild peels such as those that use glycolic acid are ideal for a lot of skin types and provide the patient with smoother and brighter skin. Of all three levels, side effects are least likely with mild treatments. The procedure removes the top layer of the skin and several treatments may be needed to achieve your desired results.

Medium Peels

The trichloroacetic acid peel is a medium peel and goes deeper than mild peels. It can reduce the appearance of minor wrinkles, something that mild peels cannot do. However, there is an increased chance of negative side effects with medium peels. It also makes you more sensitive to the sun. These peels are very popular since they can be used on different skin types by blending concentrations. Those who have darker skin can see the best outcomes with this kind of peel.

Deep peels

Deep peels are also known as phenol peels. They are not ideal for everyone. The procedure can take off several skin layers. It also offers dramatic results. Then again, there is a risk that the patient will have permanent bleaching. Thus it is usually recommended to fair-skinned individuals only.

To get more information on chemical peels and to know which level is perfect for your skin, call us at 817-579-5476. We would love to help you achieve skin rejuvenation through chemical peels!

Eyelid Lift in Granbury: What to Expect After Surgery

Posted in Cosmetic Surgery Guide, Texas Cosmetic Surgery | February 28, 2014

The eyes are the window to the soul. But what if your eyes make you look older than your real age or more tired than you truly are? If this bothers you, then undergoing eyelid lift in Granbury would be a good move. Eyelid lift is also known as blepharoplasty. It is a procedure that involves the removal of fat and skin from the eyelids. Since it is a surgical procedure, you will go through a recovery phase which normally takes two weeks. The healing process is made of several components, which you have to be aware of even before undergoing surgery.

Bruising usually occurs after surgery. Sometimes light redness can be close to the incision site. Other patients may have redness that covers the entire eyelid. Bruising may also be seen on the cheek, neck, or lower part of the face since gravity causes blood to collect in these parts. Bruising may be present for two weeks up to two months. They become yellow in color then change to blue until they go away. The good thing is that they always go away.

The eyelids or the face will swell after surgery. This is a normal response of the body as it sends cell to the treatment area for it to heal. During the first few days after surgery, swelling may get worse. After two weeks, most of the swelling will be gone.

Swelling can be minimized by applying cold compress. It also helps to keep the head above your heart so that fluid in the eyelids will be drained. Elevate your head and use a couple of pillows when sleeping.

Healing of incision

It can take time for the incision to heal. Fortunately, they become barely noticeable when they heal. Dramatic improvement is usually seen six weeks after surgery. It is important to avoid sun exposure to help the incision heal.

The recovery phase is just as important as the procedure itself. If you are interested in eyelid surgery, contact Lakecrest Cosmetic Surgery Center at 817-579-5476 and learn more about the procedure from its risks and benefits to what happens during the actual surgery up to your full recovery.

Liposuction is the quick fix for men and women to get rid of their extra bulges.  If someone hates their bulging midriff, heavy bottom and extra fat on the thigh area, liposuction cosmetic surgery can suck out these extra fatty problems.  Those stubborn pockets of fat that remain intact despite going to the gym or dieting can be effectively removed by liposuction.  Liposuction can dramatically improve your body contour.

Remove Unwanted Hair with a Flash of Light

Posted in Uncategorized | January 30, 2014
